According to their advertisement campaigns, energy drinks might give you wings. But the question to answer is at what costs you’ll receive them. Because of energy stimulating products getting more and more popular in the wide population lots of articles in the newspapers, online media, and overall press are featuring this topic, especially on the dangers that energy drinks can cause to your body.

Always keep in mind that Energy Drinks won’t give you energy out of anything. Drinking them will only cause your body operating in an alert state, mainly if they are sugar-free.  If Energy Drinks contain a high amount of sugar they might also cause your body to increase the blood-sugar volume to an unhealthy level. Ginseng can improve physical performance, focus, and memory (especially in combination with ginkgo biloba). However, there’ve not been that overwhelming results yet to prove that. In long-term studies, Ginseng can cause insomnia and might cause interference of other drugs from medications like insulin, oral hypoglycemic agents, diuretics or blood-thinners. Also, the amount of Ginseng in most energy drinks appears to be under the level that is likely to actually show real effects.


Sugar is very unhealthy when consumed excessively many studies have shown. As the sugar goes into your blood-stream it will increase your blood-sugar to an unhealthy level that might even encourage the development of diabetes.  Energy Drinks are usually loaded with sugar so we recommend consuming them at a moderate amount only. Also, the sugar-free alternative is well-discussed as it used to contain some artificial sweeteners that have been linked unofficially to several diseases like cancer. However, there’s no clear advice that proves the sweeteners are connected to increased cancer risk in humans.


Caffeine always used to be the most popular energy ingredient as it basically lets your body operate in an increased-alertness state while improving memory. We still don’t know how some of the most common energy drink ingredients can affect you in the long term because there’ve not been that many studies yet.

According to ConsumerReports organization, one drink can boost your caffeine-level in blood at up to 210mg supplemented caffeine while there also drinks that are loaded with way more caffeine like the 5-Hour Energy Drink.

What you should do now

Just don’t abuse Energy Drinks, then everything is fine. We strongly recommend to never consume more than 2-3 drinks a day. However, we are no doctors so can only talk from experience when it comes to advising on this topic.
